A photographer’s view ahead of EBACE 2014
This week sees Europe’s annual meeting of the business aviation industry. EBACE (European Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition) is held as a three-day event in Geneva, with over 500 exhibitors from all over the world showcasing their aircraft and services at Palexpo, the exhibition centre adjacent to Geneva International Airport.

EBACE officially starts tomorrow. But a highlight for many visitors is the impressive static display of private jet aircraft and this brought a large number of aviation photographers and aircraft enthusiasts to Geneva at the weekend – ahead of the show’s first day – keen to see the aircraft coming in to land.
Our own Alex Peake is one of them. Alex is a keen aviation photographer in addition to his role in our flight team. He arrived in Geneva at the weekend and reports back as follows:
This year’s EBACE has so far been a scorcher, with clear skies and temperatures in the high twenties. This is always a tremendous boost for the photography community of course – the aircraft look even better against a clear blue sky.
The weekend was busy with aircraft arrivals. Manufacturer Dassault turned up in style, arriving almost one-by-one, their aircraft following each other in. They have brought over a 7X, 900LX and 2000S. The distinctive tri-jet shape of these Falcon aircraft looked stunning against the Swiss Alps in the blazing sunshine.
Aircraft were arriving from the east all morning on Sunday, however a sudden change of wind switched arrivals to westerlies, meaning a convoy of plane spotters jumped in their hire cars and raced to the other end of the runway to capture late afternoon arrivals.
Aviation photographers are always talking about paint schemes. We saw one brand new Global 6000 arrive – Bombardier’s new ultra long range jet. The owner had kept to the standardised livery of a white exterior – much to the disappointment of many photographers who always hope for colourful paint schemes!
I’ll be joining Alex when EBACE 2014 officially opens tomorrow, so watch this space for more highlights from this year’s show.
