It’s All About Brazil
There was a distinctively Brazilian flavour in the air at PrivateFly yesterday.
Firstly, we saw a nice piece of coverage of the results of our annual Airport Approaches Poll in Brazil’s highest circulation newspaper, Folha.
The poll asks voters for their favourite scenic world airport landing, with the most votes this year going to St Maarten in the Caribbean.
See full details, images and video of the top ten scenic landings.
The voters’ top ten didn’t include a Brazilian airport, although Rio’s landing had been shortlisted for the vote by our judge Sarah Miller (launch editor of Conde Nast Traveller UK in 1997) who said it offered “The most incredible approach with views of Guanabara Bay”. But obviously it’s a story with global appeal and it was great to see lots of Folha readers visiting PrivateFly yesterday.
Then last night, we were invited along to watch Brazil play England at football. It was certainly not Brazilian temperatures at Wembley. But the atmosphere was warm at the Brazilian end of the stadium, where we were sitting with our friends from Parmigiani Fleurier, the official watchmaker of the Confederação Brasileira de Futebol.
Of course, the private aviation market in Brazil is hotting up in advance of the Rio Olympics in 2016. As we saw in London last year, such an intense focus on aviation can have a lasting benefit for airports. The main hubs will be showcased to visitors flying in from all over the world and smaller airports will benefit from the overflow.
It will be interesting to watch airports such as Sao Paulo’s Sao Paulo Congonhas International Airport and Rio’s Rio De Janeiro International Airport transform between now and then.
