Key events for private jet travel: February & March 2014
Obviously private aviation is a year-round, global business. But certain key annual events drive local peaks in demand, generating significant volumes of flights into and out of specific airports.
Some of these are airports that cater for significant volumes of private jets all the time, such as Nice Cote D’Azur Airport which sees its busiest days around the Monaco Grand Prix and Cannes Film Festival in late May or June – but is busy with private jets at any time of year.
Other smaller airports burst into life for a few days each year, such as EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg which usually caters for an average of just 18 private jet flights each day, but sees well over a hundred per day in June, during the annual Art Basel event.
There are a number of key global business, sporting and entertainment events in February and March 2014, likely to generate significant spikes in private jet demand to their local airports:
SUPER BOWL FINAL 2014
This year’s Super Bowl Final is taking place at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey and will see a huge influx of private jets landing for the USA’s biggest sporting event.

SOCHI WINTER OLYMPICS 2014
This year’s Winter Olympics will see huge numbers of global private jets heading to Sochi in Russia, which is putting special procedures in place to cope with the extra volumes and security required (see previous blog Demand for Sochi heats up).

2014 ACADEMY AWARDS
February and March is the peak of the global film awards season – culminating with the Oscars at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. Private jets will also be busy heading to the BAFTAs in London on February 16, and the Berlinale Golden Bear Awards in Berlin on February 6 – 16.
