5 Caribbean flight hops & prices
At this time of year, our Flight Team are kept busy with Caribbean private flights. The peak tourist season there is now underway, and the Caribbean region will be a hotspot for private flights between now and the end of February.
There are 28 island nations and more than 7,000 individual islands in the Caribbean. And while there are some airline routes within the region, many island runways are small, and can only accommodate certain small aircraft types. So private aircraft charter is an integral part of the transportation system.
Some of our clients do use a long range private aircraft for the journey from their starting point in Europe or the USA, when travelling to the Caribbean. But others use a combination of airline flights and private aviation, to reach their final destination.
It can make a lot of sense, as frequently you need to change to a smaller aircraft to reach many Caribbean islands anyway (which wouldn’t be the aircraft you’d choose for a longer journey).
Lots of Caribbean airports are very small, with tiny runways that only accommodate small aircraft. St Barts’ (Gustaf III Airport) runway of only 650 metres allows only small propellor aircraft such as BN Islander to land there.
The runway at Juancho E Yrausquin Airport on the island of Saba is even smaller at 400m – in fact it’s the world’s shortest. Take a look at the video we took of a landing there earlier this year:
