Is being a pilot one of ‘The world’s best travel jobs’?

The Telegraph Travel desk recently came up with a list of the world’s best travel jobs. Coming in at number three was ‘Pilot’, flying into Barra’s beach runway as one of the world’s most spectacular landings.

Thousands of you seemed to agree, as Barra came top of PrivateFly’s ‘Scenic Airport Approaches‘ in 2011, and was second last year (beaten only by St Maarten airport in the Caribbean).

Personally I think a Pilot on Barra could give the #1 job, Caretaker of the Great Barrier Reef, a run for its money (but maybe that’s a biased view, coming from a Scottish pilot!)

But it’s not just me. Our recent pilot survey showed that pilots have very high levels of job satisfaction.

Here’s the Top 10, compiled by the Telegraph’s Travel Desk:

1. Caretaker of the Great Barrier Reef – Nurturing one of the seven wonders of the natural world.

2. Pool Attendant, Las Vegas – experience the Las Vegas Pool Party season at close-hand.

3. Pilot, Isle of Barra – One of the world’s most scenic airport landings, on a beach runway (winner of PrivateFly’s 2011 Airport Approaches Poll).

4. Guidebook writer – compile and compare the most amazing places in the world.

5. Ski Writer – love writing, love skiing…and get paid to do both.

6. Tour Guide in Champagne Cellars – a full-time working knowledge of the world’s most celebratory drink.

7. Superyacht Captain – Steer the helm and enjoy the high life with celebrities and the wealthy elite.

8. Lifeguard on Santa Monica – Keep a watchful eye over the alluring coast of California, Baywatch-style.

9. Chalet boy or girl – in the most expensive ski residence in the world, Chalet N (£231K per week), in Oberlech, Austria.

10. Hotel reviewer – to sleep is to dream… in some of the greatest hotel beds in the land.

Others on the list include a train driver in Switzerland, monkey chasers, and a waterslide tester. Here’s the Telegraph’s full list of the world’s best travel jobs.
