Berlin Schönefeld at capacity for private jets to Champions League Final

This Saturday sees the final of the UEFA Champions League take place at Berlin’s Olympiastadion.

With Juventus facing Barcelona, it promises to be an exciting clash for football fans across Europe. Major sports events like this always generate an increase in private jet demand, from private individuals, groups and corporates – and this year’s Champion’s League Final is certainly no exception.

In fact, Berlin’s major airport Berlin Schönefeld is already full for private jet landing slots around the event and cannot accommodate any further new private jet flight bookings for this weekend. Berlin’s smaller airport Berlin Tegel is also at capacity and helicopter charter services into the closest landing site are booked out.

But there are other nearby private jet airports that are still available for new private flight bookings.

Alternative private jet airports for Champions League Final

For new, last minute private jet flight enquiries, we are flying clients to Leipzig Halle Airport or Dresden Airport – both just under a two-hour drive from the Olympiastadion venue.

Both airports can accommodate all sizes of private jet aircraft, with Leipzig offering two runways and Dresden one. Dresden is open 05.30 – 23.30 and Leipzig 06.00 – 22.00 (but can be 24 hours on request).

Airport slots and parking restrictions

Neither of these airports usually require fixed time slots for private flights but with the additional demand for this weekend, they have introduced them. Working to slots – formally known as PPR (Prior Permission Required) procedures – is a method of smoothing out peaks of aircraft traffic into a manageable flow, for both the airport and air traffic control.

This is a process that is commonly introduced at private jet airports during major events, and means that not all customers will get the flexibility they desire. There is still slot availability at both Leipzig and Dresden, but it is booking up.

Aircraft parking can also be an issue at busy times like this and both of these airports have limited spaces – particularly Leipzig which offers 8 exclusive private jet stands. Dresden has slightly higher capacity with a dedicated general aviation parking area, and capacity for up to 12 large jets. When these spaces are full, clients may find prices increase to allow for their aircraft to reposition in and out from another airport nearby.

So we are recommending to clients that they make their arrangements as early as possible for Champions League Final flights, if they haven’t already done so.
