Increase in private aviation slots proposed for RAF Northolt
The MoD has just announced a public consultation to increase slots at RAF Northolt for private aviation.
RAF Northolt is the South East of England’s most under-utilised runway. With the military usage dramatically reduced the MoD have allowed civilian private jets to use the airbase.
Currently only 7000 movements are allowed per year at London’s premier private jet airport. That equates to only 10 landings per day; or one landing every 1hr 30mins that the airport is open.
The new slot limit at Northolt will be 12,000. This will increase to 17,500 by 2016 an MoD spokesman told PrivateFly.
This is great news for the private jet industry and customers alike. RAF Northolt is one of London’s most popular private jet airports. Only 13 miles from Central London, Northolt’s 5,500ft runway is capable of handling all sizes of private aircraft and helicopters.
