September surge as business flying takes off again

While the demand for private jet charter has been very strong for the past 18 months during the pandemic, the majority of our trips at PrivateFly have been for leisure or personal reasons. But during September we have seen a definite shift back to business.

Over the past few weeks, business flying has taken off alongside continuing leisure demand. September is usually a quieter month than August or July, but that has not been the case this year. Clients are certainly still travelling for holidays and short breaks - especially after a later start to summer due to restrictions. But they are also now starting to fly again for work reasons, in greater numbers.

Face-to-face business meetings have been on hold for many people during the pandemic, but there's now a release of pent-up demand for in-person meetings, with clients keen to move on from video conferencing and return to conducting business in real life.

For many, that personal chemistry cannot be replaced, especially when important deals need to be signed or big investment decisions made. Clients across many sectors - including finance, technology, pharmaceuticals and entertainment - also need a physical presence for site visits or to move between key business locations.

Other corporate clients are using private aviation for the first time, including a London professional services firm sending a senior team to a European capital for a key meeting. They had not previously used private aviation, but are now doing so, keen to avoid commercial airline travel for their staff, as well as to improve travel efficiency and connectivity.

Our top destinations are shifting too, as business travel starts to become a bigger part of the mix. While Ibiza, Palma and Nice remain popular, more and more flights are heading to and from key business centres such as Paris, Geneva, Zurich, Munich, and Amsterdam.

This strong demand continues to create a pressure on supply with availability of aircraft and market pricing remaining very dynamic, as we have seen over the summer. More and more clients are drawn to the predictability of fixed hourly rates and guaranteed availability offered by our Jet Card, and the enhanced terms and benefits offered by our Aviator Membership.
