A winning view at Nice Cote D’Azur
Last week we announced the winner of our 2014 poll to find the world’s most stunning airport approach. This is something we run as an annual travel survey, and this year saw almost 5,000 voters take part, with 202 different airports nominated.
This year the airport receiving the most votes was Nice Côte D’Azur. A worthy winner indeed. I have landed at Nice many times, both as a pilot and as a passenger, and it is always a memorable experience.
The breathtaking approach embodies the timeless glamour and character of the Côte D’Azur, you couldn’t be anywhere else. It offers a winning combination of blue sea, sky and mountains, along with glimpses of the stunning homes, yachts and helicopters buzzing below.
The landing is very fresh in my mind because last week I experienced it myself.
I flew down to Nice with Astrid Armingnon from our marketing team, to present the winners’ trophy to Dominique Thillaud, CEO of Aéroports de la Côte D’Azur. We also presented a commemorative framed print to each of the three FBOs (private jet terminals) at Nice – Swissport , Landmark and Aviapartner.
Naturally the team at Nice are very proud of the beauty of their area. We had a very warm welcome from everyone there – at what is a very busy time for the airport. With the Monaco Grand Prix and Cannes Film Festival both coming up, Nice sees a big increase in private jet flights and passenger numbers at this time of year.
