Airline & airport strikes over the Christmas holiday
Strikes are set to disrupt airline travel for Christmas travellers departing from the UK, with staff at many UK airports due to stage a 48-hour walk out from Friday December 23rd.
The strike involves workers at ground handler Swissport, and follows a long-running dispute over pay and conditions. British Airways cabin crew based at Heathrow airport are also threatening to strike on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
Heathrow, Stansted, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Glasgow, Leeds Bradford, Liverpool, Newcastle, and Manchester airports are all likely to be affected if the strikes go ahead, with baggage restrictions and ground service disruptions possibly affecting flights. The British Airways strike will have a more direct impact on their flights out of Heathrow.
Private jet travel during strikes
Private charter flights from the UK are still operating as normal over the Christmas period, including for short notice departures. Private jet FBOs and ground services will not be impacted by the proposed industrial action.
