Private Jet Travel During The General Strike
The Europe-wide general strike beginning on Wednesday 14th November will have a significant impact on airline travel, as it will include airport workers such as Air Traffic Control staff.
Many European airline flights have already been cancelled and are likely to be disrupted for three days as a result of the strike by The European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC). The strike action has been backed by unions in Greece, Portugal, Spain and the Canary Islands.
The agility of private jet charter means that passengers can still be kept moving when airlines fail in times of industrial action – or during extreme weather conditions. This was seen very clearly during the heavy snowfall over the last two winters in Northern Europe, and during the volcanic ash cloud crisis in 2010, when we saw a significant increase in demand for private jet travel, at short notice.
Obviously private jets are also affected by airport or airspace closures. But when certain airports or regions are disrupted, flights can be rescheduled very quickly, and ground transportation can be arranged to switch passengers to airports that are still operating. And unlike airlines, when disruption comes to an end, private jet flights can recommence at full strength immediately, whereas airlines can take several days to return to a normal schedule.
