Flying to Hong Kong by private jet

Hong Kong is a key travel destination for both business and leisure, and private jets do fly into Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA).

But there are some specific operational challenges for private aviation flights in and out of Hong Kong, that we make our clients aware of.

Currently aircraft operators must book slots – usually both inbound and outbound – and a parking space prior to flying into Hong Kong International.

And as of 2017, slots can only be reserved within 14 days of advance, which can pose real problems for business travellers.

Aircraft parking must also be confirmed within 24 hours of obtaining slots in order to hold a reservation.

PrivateFly’s expert Flight Team can advise on how to arrange your specific flight in and out of Hong Kong International. But here are a few general tips to bear in mind:

1) Choose an overnight landing

The Hong Kong airport authority has recently made about five extra slots available for business aircraft operations from 10pm to 7am local time. These slots are not available to all aircraft, depending on their noise footprint, and booked parking is still required.

2) Fly on a Tuesday or Wednesday

The easiest days for getting a slot into HKG are Tuesday and Wednesday. If possible, try to avoid Thursday through Monday, when access is extremely difficult.

3) Consider alternatives

You could consider bypassing Hong Kong International Airport entirely and use other nearby airports instead. Macau International Airport (VMMC) is one option, but transport to Hong Kong requires a ferry or helicopter. You could also use Shenzhen International Airport (SGSZ) or Zhuhai International Airport (ZGSD) which are both located on mainland China; however travellers to these airports would require Chinese visas.

4) Drop & go to avoid parking

In some cases, it might be best to be dropped off at the airport and then have the aircraft reposition itself elsewhere, where parking is not a problem.

5) Be flexible

Our Flight Team is aware of these challenges, and make every effort to accommodate clients in flight planning. We advise our clients to remain flexible when arranging private jet charter to and from Hong Kong.
