Boeing unveils the new 787-10 Dreamliner
Aviation giant Boeing unveiled its third generation 787-10 Dreamliner model last week, to much excitement. The rollout took place at the Boeing factory in Charleston, South Carolina.
The newest member of the 787 family, the 787-10 is made of composite materials and characterised by its high fuel efficiency, blunt nose and sharply swept wings – just like its predecessors.
But where it differs is in its length. With 18ft more cabin length than the 787-9, this newest Dreamliner is 224ft long and will carry 15% more passengers than the 787’s maximum of 300.
And despite its increased number of seats and space, Boeing claims the 787-10 will be 10 per cent more fuel and emission efficient than its best-performing competitors.
Thousands of Boeing employees at the South Carolina site celebrated its unveiling last week, which was attended by US president Donald Trump.
The Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner will now prepare for its first flight in the coming weeks.
Boeing says the new aircraft will be delivered to customers from 2018 onwards. There are already 149 entries in the order book, from airlines including United Airlines, British Airways and Air France.
Boeing private jets
Boeing also offers its airliners for sale to private owners, corporates or governments under its BBJ (Boeing Business Jet) program.
The BBJ is a supersize VIP private jet, with a huge, multi-zone cabin including a stateroom, master bedroom suite, and luxury bathrooms – each one is configured in a bespoke layout and design for its owner.
Most existing BBJs are conversions from 737 or 747 airliners – and some are available for private charter. A growing number of newer Dreamliner BBJ conversions are now also flying and it won’t be long before the 787-10 joins them.
