Google Invests in Bizav

Interesting news over the weekend that Google’s aviation arm has plans to invest in California’s Mineta San Jose International Airport, building a new FBO facility there to handle flights for its own fleet of private aircraft.
Blue City Holdings, which owns and operates Google’s aircraft, looks likely be awarded a 50-year lease on San Jose Airport’s West Side – in partnership with Signature Flight Support.
The plan is good news for business aviation and an indication of the strength of Signature, which now operates FBOs at 100 locations in the United States, Europe, South America, Africa and Asia.
The plan is to build a 29-acre, $82 million FBO, including a VIP terminal, hangars and ramp space to accommodate large business jets.
The plan will generate 370 jobs in total, through the construction phase and in the running of the FBO, which will handle flights for Google’s senior team and for other business aviation flights in the region.
A world-class FBO so close at hand will be a significant asset to Google’s global growth – and for the other other residents of Silicon Valley who use the airport.
Keeping travel time to an absolute minimum, senior executives will be able to be airborne within minutes of leaving the office. Clearly this is something Google sees as well worth investing in.
