Private jet passengers are getting younger
There can be a perception that private jet travel is the preserve of older generations. But that’s no longer the case.
Our latest quarterly insights report reveals that the average age of our private jet passenger last quarter was 38. A figure that is steadily reducing, down from 40 last year.
With private jet charter becoming easier and more accessible, more and more younger business owners, entrepreneurs and families are changing the profile of today’s private jet traveller.
The insight is part of PrivateFly’s Private Jet Charter Trends (Q3 2017) report, based on analysis of thousands of searches and hundreds of private jet flights over the July – September period.
This is always the peak season for private aviation, with leisure travel boosting year-round business flights. But this was our busiest summer ever. Here at PrivateFly we arranged 48% more flights than last year.
And industry figures, from intelligence provider WingX Advance, highlighted a returning confidence in the European market overall, with flight volumes during August nudging back above pre-recession levels for the first time. There were 78,785 private jet departures from European airports in August 2017 – 1.3 per cent higher than August 2008.
With increasing instability in airline travel, new (and younger) private jet customers are entering the market – around 20 per cent of our customers are flying private for the first time. And those already doing so are flying more. It’s clear that confidence is returning to the sector, and new business models are making it easier than ever before to arrange private jet charter.
Other key findings from the report include summer hotspot Ibiza strengthened its popularity; the impact of weather conditions; and average spend increasing – up 17% across all aircraft groups (and £10,400 for a small jet flight).
