Do I pay VAT on a private jet flight?
Generally private jet flights are exempt of VAT but each country has different rules. Here is a quick answer for the UK.
UK VAT for private flights
To ensure your private flight (or a series of flights booked on the same invoice) is exempt from VAT (zero rated) in the UK, one or more of the following must apply:
1. One leg of the flight is International (includes a landing outside of the UK)
OR
2. The aircraft has 10 or more seats (including crew seats)
OR
3. The aircraft is 8000kg or heavier
OR
4. The aircraft is used by the airline mostly on international routes (irrelevant of your flight!)
So as a general rule, domestic UK flights using small helicopters and propeller aircraft have VAT applied. Larger private aircraft are VAT exempt.
However each country has a different set of rules for VAT or the equivalent domestic tax eg FET in the USA. Our expert team can advise on this, depending on your route and country of origin.
