Luton’s easyJet passengers to enjoy private jet experience
There’s a lot of interest this week in the news that easyJet is offering its London Luton airport customers access to the recently-refurbished Signature private jet FBO.
The budget airline’s passengers who choose this premium option can then totally bypass the commercial terminal – and arrive or depart as a private jet passenger usually would.
This means they can park right outside the door and benefit from the rapid and seamless security screening, customers and immigration experience usually only available to private jet customers. And while they’re waiting, enjoy the well-appointed lounge, with complimentary refreshments.
Departing passengers and their luggage are then driven to their easyJet aircraft in one of Signature’s VIP vehicles.
The service is called Signature’s Elite-class service and London Luton is a new location, but not the first. Signature already offers the same benefits at London Gatwick and in some of its Caribbean locations – Antigua, Barbados and Grenada.
It’s a great way for our industry to showcase the ground service benefits of travelling by private jet, giving customers a taste of the private jet experience, if not the actual jet itself.
While it’s questionable how much take-up the service – priced at £475 per person – will have, it’s certainly proving a great way for Signature to raise awareness and draw attention to their impressive new FBO facility.
And will private jet users be put off by having to share their VIP lounges with easyJet passengers?
I don’t think they have too much to worry about. Private jet customers spend very little time in the FBO anyway – that’s the whole point. So the lounges are pretty quiet most of the time. The ability to depart as quickly as possible, at a time of your own choosing, is one of the main reasons to fly privately.
