London Helicopters – your options
If you’re looking to charter a helicopter in London for a city sightseeing tour or for business, you should look carefully at your options. There are several London helipads for take-off or landing and, in the run up to the 2012 London Olympics (when unprecedented demand for helicopters in London is expected), new helicopter sites are opening up. The best known and most established London helipad is at Battersea’s The London Heliport, which offers excellent facilities in a recently-upgraded luxury terminal. Services include air-conditioned passenger lounges, a conference centre, pilot facilities and dedicated secure parking. The new complex also includes a luxury 70-bedroom hotel.
Of course all these facilities come at a price, and there are a variety of other options available which may not offer all the facilities of The London Heliport, but certainly do offer better value for money in terms of landing fees – and may also be a better London location than Battersea depending on your itinerary. There are established helipads at Heathrow, Biggin Hill, Elstree, Denham and Stapleford. Helicopter options are also opening up at Ham Polo Club and Battersea Power Station – an alternative helipad in Battersea but at a much lower price than The London Heliport. Both Ham Polo Club and Battersea Power Station have accommodated privately owned helicopters for some time, but are now formalising the process and becoming recognised take-off and landing sites for London helicopter charter.
