Portable private jet hotel
Much as they enjoy the experience onboard, most private jet customers like to be on the move quite swiftly once the aircraft has landed. Spending as little time as possible at the airport is one of the main benefits of private jet travel after all.
That’s why I was surprised to see an unusual design concept unveiled this week: A short stay hotel that attaches itself to your private jet.
The JetWay hotel has been designed for use on the runway at Doha airport, in Qatar.

The lightweight, portable structure is wheeled to the aircraft and its futuristic design is inspired by the heat haze on a runway. It includes a small lounge, bathroom, sleeping area and an extendable walkway, which attaches to the aircraft. The design boasts hydro-pneumatic suspension sections that can be moved apart, locking the hangar roof in place and counterbalancing the different sections of the structure.
It certainly looks spectacular, there’s no doubt about that. But I can’t see there being much demand.
Some private jet customers adore their aircraft and most enjoy their time onboard. But runways and airports are noisy places. Not somewhere you would want to spend any more time than absolutely necessary. It’s hard to imagine this particular concept becoming a reality.
