The Lineage 1000E takes a bow in Dubai

Embraer’s Lineage 1000E is the biggest business jet aircraft on display at The Dubai Air Show, which opens today. And visitors are in for a treat.

The VIP converted airliner may have a lower profile than its rivals, the Boeing Business Jet and the Airbus ACJ319, but you certainly get a lot of (impressive) aircraft for your money.

The Lineage, a luxury conversion of Embraer’s E-190 airliner, is bigger than these two other giant jets, but has lower operating costs.

And there’s no denying the appeal of its 5-zone interior, which includes a queen-sized master suite; en-suite bathroom; spacious lounge and dining areas; and a high spec galley with convection oven, microwave and dishwasher. So it’s no surprise that it has proved popular with royalty and dignatories.

The key selling point of the $53M Lineage 1000E is space. The aircraft’s cabin is 25.7m long and 2m high. It can seat up to 19 passengers, but the more popular layouts include seating for 8.

Luggage space is also very generous, with the largest in-flight accessible baggage compartment in business aviation. This has 9.14 cubic metres of storage space, with a further 3.4 cubic metre external hold.

One of the drawbacks of the original Lineage 1000 was its weight – which restricted its range and access to smaller airports. But this was addressed to a certain extent with the launch of the 1000E variant in 2013. Key to the changes, were Embraer’s decision to remove some of its cabin windows and one door. This upgrade saved 227 kg (500 lb) in weight, giving the aircraft another 200 nm (370 km) of range.

This makes it capable of 4,600 nm; allows it to now land at more airports (including steep approaches such as Aspen and London City Airport); and gives it a top speed of Mach 0.82. Improved performance, while still exceeded in speed and range by its rivals.

Embraer aircraft are always highly-regarded by flight crew and the Lineage 1000E is no exception. There’s optional autoland and the Embraer Enhanced Vision System (Rockwell Collins HGS-3500 with EVS-3000, including an infrared camera in the nose).

While the Lineage 1000E has a relatively low profile in the US, its space and high-spec luxury interior make it popular in the Middle East. So show visitors in Dubai will no doubt enjoy viewing this spectacular supersized jet.
