Flying to the Mexico City F1 Grand Prix? Here’s What You Need to Know

Planning to visit Mexico City for the F1 Grand Prix? If so, you’re not alone.

This year’s festivities will span over October 27 – 29, 2018, at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez.

Last year’s race brought more than 330,000 spectators, with numbers expected to increase this year. As with the Monaco Grand Prix, an increase in private jet movements is anticipated.

With teams, race enthusiasts, celebrities, and corporate sponsors all set to descend on Mexico City, we’ve compiled some tips to make sure your private jet charter to Mexico is as smooth as possible.

1) Know Your Airport

Toluca International Airport (MMTO) is the only option when flying by private jet into Mexico City.

MMTO is a 24-hour airport of entry with 24/7 Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine (CIQ) clearance, full GA support services, Ground Support Equipment (GSE), aviation fuel, in-flight catering, and ample parking (depending on the FBO used). Drive time from MMTO to Mexico City is between one and a half and two hours, depending on traffic.

The Mexico City International Airport (MMMX) is only for commercial traffic and government flights – it is actually the busiest airport in Latin America.

2) Limited Parking Slots & Fueling

With more private jet landings comes limited parking slots at Toluca International Airport. Particularly parking jets overnight will be in high demand, as it is a 3-day event.

While PrivateFly will take care of those details, it’s important to know that parking slots can be a major factor in booking your flight.

Luckily, Toluca International has added a fifth hanger on the premises, bringing its total hangar space to almost 170,000 sq ft. to help offset the increased demand.

3) Local Ground Transportation

Because of the influx of visitors, we recommend also booking ground transportation in advance. Many private car companies will be busy during the event, so it is imperative to secure your ride in advance.

4) Book Early

We can’t stress this enough – booking early will ensure that you secure your preferred slot, car transfer, and even hotel accommodations for the Mexico City Grand Prix.
