More time to fly at London Biggin Hill

Our clients regularly tell us that time-saving and flexibility are their biggest reasons for choosing private aviation. And for the increasing number that fly in and out of London Biggin Hill Airport, there was good news yesterday: Even more choice of itinerary.

As of May 1st, the airport’s much-anticipated extended opening hours became operational: 06.30 to 23.00 from Monday to Friday, and 08.00 to 22.00 on weekends and public holidays.

As the biggest city for private aviation in Europe, it’s a competitive market out there for London’s private jet airports. And over the past two years, Biggin Hill is showing more growth than any other – flight movements were up by 5% in both 2016 and 2015 (in a fairly flat market overall).

In addition to clients flying in and out of South, East and Central London, Biggin Hill serves residential areas of Kent popular with high net worths, such as Tunbridge Wells and Sevenoaks.

It also gives fast track access to London by helicopter transfer, to the London Heliport at Battersea. A 7-minute helicopter ride can save hours of being delayed in city traffic, so this is another real time saving benefit of utilising Biggin Hill’s full aviation assets.

Why do private jet customers choose London Biggin Hill?

1) Lower cost access to London than RAF Northolt, London City Airport and Farnborough.

2) Biggin is an exclusive private jet airport, without the slot restrictions being imposed by Luton Airport and Heathrow – where increasing demand by airlines can create limitations for private jet users.

3) The airport has a long runway with an Instrument Landing System (ILS), allowing safe operational access throughout the year.

What next for London Biggin Hill?

The extended opening hours follow Biggin Hill’s announcement last month of a £15M expansion plan to create new office space, a hangar, 50-room hotel and aircraft parking. Read more: £15M growth plans at London Biggin Hill.

The airport is increasingly popular as an event venue and likely to be even more so when this work is completed. Luxury lifestyle showcase The Elite London will be taking place there on 11th – 13th May. Biggin Hill will also host industry event Air Charter Expo (ACE) on 12th September.

And with the airport celebrating its centenary this year, there’s a programme of special events this summer, including a 2-day Centenary Festival of Flight on 19th – 20th August.

2017 is set to be an important year indeed for the Biggin Hill team. We look forward to seeing the airport go from strength to strength.
