The adventures of Nigel, PrivateFly’s travelling bear
All of PrivateFly’s team love to travel and we don’t miss the opportunity to hop on a plane.
But our biggest globetrotter of all is Nigel, the pilot bear. PrivateFly’s mascot likes nothing more than to jump into suitcases and cockpits, to visit the four corners of the world.
Here are Nigel’s top five travel highlights of 2017 – plus his tips to get the most from each destination.
1. Scuba diving in Malta
While Nigel spends most of his time in the air, he also appreciates the depth of the oceans.
Nigel loved viewing the fish and searching for old military aircraft wrecks, with our flight team member Nick.
Nigel’s travel tip: The views on landing at Malta Airport are world class and it was voted no.1 in our 2016 survey of the World’s Most Scenic Airport landings. So make sure you get a window seat (or for the ultimate arrival go for a private jet with big windows, such as the Gulfstream G450).
2. Sailing in Nice
Nothing beats a summer break to the Cote d’Azur – one of our clients’ favourite destinations.
Nigel is no exception and jumped at the chance to accompany Business Development Manager Hannah to the Monaco Yacht Show. After a few long days of networking, a well-deserved rest on a luxury yacht was just what he needed.
Nigel’s travel tip: Nice and Cannes are both popular private jet gateways to the Cote d’Azur but here’s how to decide which one is best for your flight: Should I land at Nice or Cannes?
3. Adventures in Iceland
An adventurer at heart, Nigel didn’t hesitate to embark on a trip to Iceland, in the company of our developer Michael.
His favourite place? Lake Jökulsárlón from where he could observe the icebergs from the Vatnajökull Glacier and greet some seals.
Nigel’s travel tip: Land directly at Akureyri Airport to visit the north of the island and have the best chance of observing the Northern Lights.
4. Meeting a Buddha in Bali
One of Nigel’s most far flung trips this year, was to Bali and Singapore.
Nigel followed our Marketing Manager Nicole across Indonesia, enjoying the beaches, the turquoise sea and many cultural highlights.
Nigel’s travel tip: Bali is one of the most exclusive destinations for honeymoons and romantic trips. If you have the budget, book a long range private jet to get there from Europe. Or you can charter a medium jet from Singapore.
5. Planespotting in Florida
Like many of our AvGeek team, Nigel enjoys regular planespotting opportunities.
On a recent visit to our US office in Fort Lauderdale, he made a detour to Boca Raton airport – to watch and photograph the private jets landing there.
Nigel’s travel tip: The biggest planespotters in our Flight Team are Alex and Phil. Give them the tail number of a private jet, and they’ll more than likely be able to instantly name the aircraft’s type, owner, home base and more.
